Data Encryption

How we keep your data safe from unwanted readers.

Encryption scrambles your data so only the right people can read it. Here is where we use it on RateAds.

In Transit

Every request to our site uses TLS 1.3 with strong cipher suites. That means your password, reviews, and payment info travel through the internet in scrambled form.

At Rest

Your data sits in databases that are encrypted with AES-256 keys. Backups are encrypted with separate keys. Even our own engineers cannot read raw data without a special audit.

What We Cannot Encrypt

Some fields—like your username and review titles—need to be searchable. Those stay readable inside our system, but the access logs catch any unusual reads.

Quick tips

  • Look for the lock icon in your browser when you sign in.
  • Use a strong password—encryption helps less if a guess gets through.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication.
  • Read our security page for technical details.
