Privacy by Design
How we build privacy into every feature from the start.
Privacy works best when it is built in from the first sketch, not added at the end. Privacy by design is our promise to do that on every feature.
Default to Less
When a feature could collect more or less data, we choose less. New features ship with the strictest privacy default. You can loosen settings if you want; you should not have to tighten them.
Plain-Language Notices
Every new feature comes with a short, plain-language notice. The notice tells you what data is used and why. It also links to the full policy.
Internal Reviews
Each feature gets a privacy review from a different team. The reviewer can block ship if a feature collects too much. We list privacy reviews in our transparency report.
Quick tips
- •Open every new-feature notice when you see it.
- •Tweak default settings only if they are too tight for you.
- •Tell us when a default seems wrong.
- •Read our transparency report for review counts.
