Investigation Process

How our team looks at reports and makes decisions.

We aim to make fair, fast calls. Our investigation process is the same for every report, no matter who filed it or who it is about.

Step 1: Triage

Each new report is sorted by topic and risk. High-risk reports—like threats or self-harm—jump the queue. Most reports start with a written response within 24 hours.

Step 2: Read the Full Context

The reviewer reads the reported post, surrounding posts, and the user's history. We look at intent, not just words. Sarcasm, quotes, and inside jokes get the right read.

Step 3: Make a Call

The reviewer matches what they saw to a specific rule. If a call is close, they bring it to a senior reviewer. We track close calls so we can train the next round of reviewers.

Step 4: Tell Both Sides

The reporter gets a short note with the outcome. The user gets a longer email with the rule, the action, and the appeal link. Privacy rules limit what each side sees.

Quick tips

  • A clear report makes the investigation faster.
  • Do not message the user you reported.
  • Save your own evidence.
  • Trust the process even when the wait feels long.
